SkinPen® is a non-surgical cosmetic microneedling device for the creation of “micro” skin punctures to improve the appearance of the skin. SkinPen is an automated microneedling technology device designed for use by medical professionals. SkinPen’s variable needle depth allows for versatility and therefore it can be used on many parts of the body, including the face, neck, and décolleté. One of the most exciting things about SkinPen® is that it can be used on all types of skin and all colors, Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to VI.
How It Works
Microneedling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise microscopic injuries to the surface of the skin. SkinPen procedures are beneficial to assist in reducing the signs of aging, rejuvenate sun-damaged skin, as well as improving the appearance of acne scars.
What To Expect
The microneedling procedure typically takes 30 minutes. To allow for a relatively pain-free experience, your SkinPen provider may optionally apply a topical anesthetic to the skin prior to the procedure. Patients may notice healthier looking skin immediately. Additionally, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. The total healing time depends on each individual patient. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild sunburn) for 2-4 days. Some patients may heal completely in 24 hours. Patients typically can resume their normal makeup regimen 2-3 days following their SkinPen procedure.
Length Of Results
Patients usually begin to see the initial, superficial results within a week of their first procedure. Radiant skin is apparent as the healing process continues. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to 3-6 months following your final session. Personal consultation with a well-qualified provider is the only way to know if micro needling pen procedures are the best choice and to determine how many procedures will be needed to produce and retain optimal results.
Number Of Treatments
The number of procedures required will be determined by your skincare professional based upon your individual procedure goals and the health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of 3 procedures spaced about 4 weeks apart. Your provider will develop a procedure plan specific to you and also a maintenance plan to help maintain amazing rejuvenating effects.
